ROOF, ROOFING, ROOF LEAK, ROOF COMPANY, GENERAL CONTRACTOR ROOF ARTICLE:
A stain in the ceiling...A drip on the floor... Are these signs of a leaky roof? Whether it is a commercial or residential roof, the issue is still the same..., there is a problem! If a leaky roof is suspected, then contact a professional. What is meant by professional? Either a General Contractor or a Company which specializes in roofs. As well, all are created with different inherent abilities, there are general contractors and roofing companies with various skill sets.
Why a General Contractor? The good general contractors are licensed, insured, and have the experience to raise, lower, repair, and create a new roof. As with any other job requiring work around the home, please see our upcoming article on Selecting a General Contractor.
Regarding roofing and roof repairs, whether asphalt, tile, slate, or rubber, you need to select a contractor who is skilled, knowledgeable in many of the different aspects involved with roofs, and who is insured. Please always request to view a copy of the insurance coverage from the General Contractor or from the Roofing Company. A reputable company will be happy to share such information with any homeowner or commercial business. Roofing affects us all, residential or commercial, and if you have solar panels, solar tubes, or HVAC on the roof, please keep in your list of interview questions, whether the general contractor or roofing company has the experience with the type and kind of roof you have.
For example, a relative of mine had discoloration of the plywood walls in their attic. They use their attic for temporary storage of seasonal decorations. Come to find out, the reason for the discoloration was due to the lead along the chimney had pulled away from the chimney allowing water to slowly enter inside the attic. Luckily for them, it was caught in time, the lead was adjusted, etc., and there was no more leak. Please be cautious of any company who may try to over sell a job, in this example a new roof, when what was really needed was a re-adjustment and some sealant, etc. Please find and use a general contractor or roofing company which has integrity and pride in their work.
